"One of the things I love about Africa is the amount of dignity and respect and humility you see all the time. You don’t realize how often you’re disrespected until you are surrounded by respect." - Jill Scott

For anyone unconvinced that the boys in Zep were Tolkien nerds, did you just miss this?

there you are,

washed clear of illusion,

you show not who you are,

but who you have become.

ominous and infectious,

you are a cancer cell,

killing everything around you,

but here i am,

fighting, resisting, refusing,

the agony and pain.

i shall not sit and make a mistake

of this sweet appearance,

truly bitter and destructive.

so i wait for the rain,

to wash it all away,

to rid me of this

negativity that only i seem to see,

feel, attractive and consume.

a universal warning,

a message, i ask you rain,

bring the message that my

ears yearn to hear.

i wait for the satisfaction of

knowing that one of these days,

everything will be sacred again,

everything pure and revitalized,

and most importantly…

internally and externally,

Once, Picasso was asked what his paintings meant. He said, ‘Do you ever know what the birds are singing? You don’t. But you listen to them anyway.’ So, sometimes with art, it is important just to look.
